Lillias Fraser, de Hélia Correia

Resumo

RESUMO: O presente trabalho tem por objetivo a análise da literatura portuguesa contemporânea e suas relações com a História. Dentre os autores portugueses contemporâneos, destaca-se aqui Hélia Correia, vencedora do Prêmio Camões em 2015. Ainda que seja autora de uma vasta obra, sua literatura permanece pouco estudada pela crítica. Lillias Fraser (2001), romance que o trabalho pretende analisar, tem diversas possibilidades de leitura e foi escolhido aqui abordar as relações estabelecidas dentro dele entre História e Literatura, visto que tem diversos acontecimentos históricos como cenário, em especial o Terremoto de 1755 que ocorreu em Lisboa. Helena Buescu, ao discorrer sobre como é que a literatura vai retratar esse momento histórico, afirma que “falar (e por isso escrever) é um dos modos privilegiados de dar forma à experiência traumática, transportando o evento do território da experiência para o território da linguagem, constituindo aquilo a que chamamos memória cultural” (2006, p. 37). O presente trabalho, portanto, pretende tentar responder as seguintes questões: como a ficção contemporânea portuguesa lê a experiência do terremoto e como o discurso literário dá conta dos silêncios que foram deixados na História?

ABSTRACT: This paper aims to review the contemporary portuguese literature and its relations with History. Among all the writers, Hélia Correia, winner of the Camões Award in 2015, stands out. Even though se is na author of vast work, her fiction remains almost unstudied by the critics. Lillias Fraser (2001), the novel that this paper intends to analyze, has several possibilities for reading and it was chosen here to approach the relationships established within it between History and Literature, since it has several historical events as scenario, especially the 1755 Earthquake that happened in Lisbon. Helena Buescu, when discussing how literature will portray this moment, states that “speaking (and therefore writing) is one of the privileged wyas of shaping the traumatic experience, transporting the event from the experience plane to the language one, forming what we call cultural memory” (2006, p. 137). Therefore, this paper tries to answer the following questions: how the contemporary fiction reads the earthquake experience and how the literature speech deals the silence lef in History?
