Fallacious enunciation in the electoral political interview

A pragmadialectical approach to argumentation

Abstract

In this paper, we analyze the political interview to the then acting president and candidate for re-election in 2022 in Brazil, on open TV, as a deliberative genre, which occurs in an institutional context between an interviewer, representing the collective interests of the audience, and an interviewee, a politician, who has a duty to account for his past and present actions. In this context, we aim to identify, describe, analyze and interpret enunciative and argumentative phenomena in the corpus as the (i) pragma-dialectical argumentative standpoints (p-d-v), (ii) the explanation of differences of opinion, a (iii) enunciative demarcation of the poles of protagonist and antagonist, (iv) the argument schemes (layout), the (v) fallacies arising from violations of critical argumentation. The results revealed the behavior of the interviewee as an irrational judge, with the predominance of fallacies in argumentation.
