Os feminismos e Relações Internacionais: por que precisamos de mais mulheres na agenda internacional?

Abstract

 This work reflects feminist approaches to International Relations (IR). The objective is to give due prominence to the gender variable as an analytical category to understand power relations on the international agenda. The line of argument in this essay is based on the following question: why do we need more women on the international agenda? Therefore, at first, some basic categories will be briefly systematized for thinking about feminisms in International Relations. Next, I identify in the relevant literature and in research already carried out some of the main contributions of feminist approaches to the area. By way of conclusion, I seek to indicate gender and power relations on the international agenda, understanding them as gendered and gendering power structures. In methodological terms, a scan of the literature was carried out in order to construct discussions expressed by the categories developed by feminism in IR, in light of the accurate analysis on security and international politics proposed by Cynthia Enloe (1989), as well as, in order to establish a historical, social perspective on the topic in focus, research of a theoretical-conceptual nature was carried out, based on analysis of the categories: patriarchy, gender, intersectionality, with the central authors: Kate Millett (1969), Kimberlé Crenshaw (2002), Cohn (2013). As a consequence, it became clear that gender stereotypes comprise and consolidate the woman as restricted to the domestic environment, to the private space, while the man belongs to the public sphere, which plays an indisputable role in terms of opportunities for representation in this sphere of IR, which has remained persistent over the years.
