Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Submission Guidelines

1. Formatting Requirements:

  • Submissions must be typed in Microsoft Word, on A4 paper (21 cm x 29.7 cm), and submitted electronically via http://periodicos.uesc.br/index.php/calea.

  • Two versions are required: one with authorship details and another anonymous version (no author identification).

  • Accepted languages: Portuguese, English, Spanish, or French.

2. File Structure and Formatting:

  • Margins: Top and left margins: 2 cm; right and bottom margins: 2 cm.

  • Page numbering: None.

  • Font: Times New Roman, size 12.

  • Spacing: 1.5-line spacing for text and paragraphs.

  • Alignment: Justified (except references, which are left-aligned).

  • Page limits: Minimum 12 pages, maximum 25 pages (including tables, figures, and references).

3. Document Structure:
            3.1 Title: Centered, bold, uppercase, at the top of the first page. Subtitles (if any) should follow on the next line.
            3.2 Author(s) Name(s) (for non-anonymous version): Full name(s), with only initials capitalized, placed two lines below the title, aligned to the right. Include an asterisk (*) linking to a footnote with institutional affiliation, email, and ORCID.

  • 3.3 Institutional Affiliation (for non-anonymous version): In a footnote, include department, faculty/institute/center, university acronym, city, state, country, email, and ORCID.

    3.4 Abstract:

  • For Portuguese articles: abstract in Portuguese and English (Abstract).

  • For foreign-language articles: abstract in the article’s language and Portuguese.

  • Format: Bold subtitle followed by a colon, single paragraph (100–200 words), justified, no indentation, single spacing, font size 10. Place two lines below the author’s name.

    3.5 Keywords: Minimum 3, maximum 5. Bold subtitle followed by a colon, capitalized initials, separated by periods, justified, single spacing, no indentation, font size 10. Place one line below the abstract.

4. Article Text:

  • Begin two lines below keywords.
    4.1 Paragraphs: Justified, with a 1.25 cm first-line indent.
    4.2 Subtitles: Left-aligned, bold, no indentation, first word capitalized (e.g., AbstractKeywordsReferences). No numbering.
    4.3 Emphasis: Use single quotes (‘text’) for highlighted terms.
    4.4 Citations:

  • Follow the author-date system (ABNT NBR 10520:2023), e.g., (Silva, 2005, p. 36–37).

  • 4.5 Tables and Figures:

  • Place near relevant text. Follow IBGE Tabular Presentation Standards.

  • If the table’s author is part of the theoretical framework, cite as (Author, Date) below the table.

  • If not, include full reference below the table.

  • For modified data, credit the editor in a footnote.

5. References:

  • Left-aligned, no indentation, alphabetical order by author’s last name.

  • Follow ABNT NBR 10520:2023 and NBR 6023 for electronic sources (include URLs and access dates if applicable).

  • Place after references, labeled Appendices or Annexes (bold, no numbering).

8. Anonymous Version:

  • Remove all author identifiers, including file properties, for blind review.

9. Non-Compliance:

  • Submissions not adhering to guidelines will be rejected.

10. Review Process:

  • Evaluated by two Editorial Board members or ad hoc reviewers. In case of disagreement, a third reviewer will decide.

11. Plagiarism Policy:

  • Plagiarized works will be automatically rejected without reconsideration.

12. Copyright Declaration:

  • Authors transfer copyright to the journal upon acceptance. Content responsibility lies solely with the authors.

  • Republishing the text (in whole or part) elsewhere is prohibited.

13. Licensing:

  • Published works use the Creative Commons CC BY-NC 4.0 license. For details, visit: Creative Commons.
